My girlfriend and I have lived in San Diego for a while and we’ve tried to explore every inch of America’s Finest City we could. As good San Diegans, we’ve developed a finely tuned taste for delicious local beers along the way and have spent a good bit of time chasing them down all over the county.

A couple years ago we decided to grow up a bit and get a VERY large puppy of our own (shot of Dennis below). Since you can’t exactly sneak a Mastiff into your purse, our weekends have been spent typing “best dog friendly bars in <insert SD neighborhood>” and crossing our fingers on the results. I thought The Brew Project would be the perfect audience to share our hard earned local knowledge with and I hope you enjoy our picks for Pacific Beach.

To make things easy, we’ll start off inland and work our way to the beach. On your way into PB from the 5, your first stop should always be The Fish Shop.

This local favorite has the two things San Diegans care about. Tacos and local beers. Both on draft and in bottles, The Fish Shop is home to a solid selection of IPAs and other options. Insider tip: the line will probably be long. The good news is you can grab a two beers outside while your date or buddy hop in line. The patio is pretty big so there’s plenty of room for the pup.

Once you finish your oysters cruise South on Ingraham to Crown Point and swing by Bayside Landing or Promiscuous Fork. Putting these two contenders across the street from each other = one of the harder choices we make all week.

Bayside has your pool tables, games, TVs, and Baywatch (men’s) / Saved by the Bell (women’s) bathroom decor. Not to mention a solid indoor/outdoor wall with room for the pooches.

Promiscuous Fork on the other hand has food you won’t stop talking about and a decent amount of outdoor space with picnic tables. Both have good local beers on tap and great staff. Good luck making the call (or do both)!

After you’ve gotten your fill on the jewels of Crown Point, shoot down Pacific Beach Drive til you hit the beach and grab a spot at Amplified Ale Works.

You might not realize Amplified is dog friendly because it’s upstairs and you have a brief walk through the restaurant…but pups are welcome. If you snag the right spot outside you’ll have an ocean view. You probably even notice the sunset though while you’re staring into your delicious Electrocution IPA.

By this point you’re probably feeling good and want to class it up a bit. Once the sun goes down head up north to Bird Rock (technically not PB) and grab an outdoor seat at Beaumonts. Live music, great food, and even better vibes. It’s a can’t miss and one of our most consistent dinner & drink destinations.

Well there you have it. Years of experience, trial/error, and plenty of delicious local beers led to that itinerary for the perfect day of dogs and drafts in Pacific Beach.
