ABOUT: The Best San Diego Brewery Map

The Brew Project has created the best and most accurate San Diego Brewery Map. Developed and continuously improved over the past 4 years, The Brew Project’s “San Diego Brewery Map” has helped over 180,000 people improve their local craft beer experience. With over 130 breweries and tasting rooms in San Diego County, San Diego has become America’s Craft Beer Capital. Please, use our San Diego Brewery Map to help find the best breweries for your next visit, brewery tour or general drinking outing.

For a more personalized approach, feel free to email me at Beau(at) I will always do my best to recommend specific breweries based on your location, favorite styles, preferred tastes and any other factors. As a craft beer consultant since 2012, I take pride in matching preferences with curated beer experiences.

If you’re visiting for a conference, staying in downtown San Diego and like Belgian Ales & IPAs, then I might recommend Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment (Mission Hills), Thorn Street Brewery (North Park), Monkey Paw Brewery (East Village) and Rip Current Brewing Company (North Park – Tasting Room).

Belgian Ale portfolios are actually harder to come by in San Diego than you would think. While many San Diego breweries brew Belgian Ales, it’s hard to find more than one or two. For proximity to downtown, I would recommend Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment (Mission Hills) and Thorn Street Brewery (North Park).

Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment (Mission Hills) has a respectable Belgian lineup that includes:

  • Witte Snake: a 4.5% Belgian Witte Bier
  • The Groupie: an 8% Belgian Blonde
  • Mad Dub: a 7% Belgian Brown Ale

Thorn Street Brewery (North Park) offers small batch Belgian Ales like:

  • Hipster’s Wit: a 5.2% Belgian Style Witbier
  • Abbey Roof: a 10.1% Belgian Style Quad
  • Saison Du Parque: a 6.7% Belgian Style Saison
  • Abbey Wall: a 6.9% Belgian Style Dubbel

On the flip-side, IPAs are brewed by almost every San Diego brewery. So what breweries have the most IPAs on? Which brewery has the best IPAs and brews with the most consistency? For a visit downtown, I would recommend Monkey Paw Brewery in East Village and Rip Current Brewing Company‘s North Park Tasting Room.

Monkey Paw not only offers great, award-winning IPAs. They also offer different varieties of IPAs such as Rye IPAs, Double IPAs, Session IPAs and Specialty IPAs. On draft you may find:

  • 16th & F Creamsicle: a 5.5% Pale Ale w/ Orange Zest & Vanilla
  • Rye You Not Call?: a 7% Rye IPA
  • Howler: a 6.7% American IPA
  • Cornelius: a 9.6% Double IPA

Rip Current Brewing Company’s main brewery is located 45 minutes North of downtown San Diego in San Marcos while their satellite tasting room in North Park is only 8 minutes North of downtown. At Rip Current’s Tasting Room in North Park, you should find IPA staples like:

  • White Caps: a 7.5% Wheat IPA
  • Impact Zone: a 6.5% tropical IPA
  • Lupulin Lust: an 8.3% Double IPA
  • Tube Rye-Der: a 4.5% Session Rye IPA
